So far, 221 games of the 264 NBL games (83%) have been played and the table is starting to take shape. 5 of the 12 men’s teams have already confirmed their places whereas the relegation battle and the hunt for playoff positions is still on.

In the ladies, 4 teams have confirmed their places and the race for higher seeds for the playoffs is on. Angels have also officially been relegated.

Amidst all this, there have been multiple standout performers but a few consistent ones and this brings us to the question; Is the MVP Race over?

For the men, one name, Edrine Ekau, has been on the mouths of all people from the start of the season. Despite being a rookie in the NBL, he has played with so much composure, skill and flair. His performances have been spectacular and he has been a joy to watch.

In his most recent game, he dropped 32 points against the Namuwongo Blazers. When Rezlife defeated the City Oilers, he scored 25 points added 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

Against the top teams, he has showed up. Against the mid and lower table teams, his craft has been on full display. He has scored 10+ points in all but 2 games this season and averages 17.2 points, 5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals.

The other person who has been very impactful for their team is Fayed Baale. Fayed has missed one of the 17 games played so far for the City Oilers. He has been very lethal off the ball and he leads in 3-point shots made with 47 on a 35% shooting efficiency.

Mark Ngobi has also been a top performer for the Victoria Crocs. However, despite posting top performances, they haven’t necessarily translated into the team’s success and they have an 8-9 record. Ngobi is second in scoring with 268 points (avg 15.8), 25 points behind Edrine Ekau. Statistically, Ngobi has more rebounds, assists and steals done Edrine. Does that give him the edge?

As things stand, it could be a 3-horse race for the regular season MVP or just a 2-horse race given that the team record does not favour Ngobi. However, in 2025, Nabisunsa’s Mpozi Abigail was named the regular season MVP despite having won just 4 games.

Who wins it for the men?

In the ladies, there hasn’t been one player who has been head and shoulders above everyone else. Tracy Namugosa has had a wonderful campaign, Martina Anyango, Sarah Ageno, and Auma Joy. Team success could be what determines this year’s winner.
