The Rujumba 7s finale gave us a renewed Rivalry between the KOBS and Heathens as it ended in dramatic fashion with a very big “controversial” by the officials at the end of the game which gave Heathens the victory.
The KOBS and Heathens have always been fierce rivals, giving us very tense moments, drama and memories and this one was nothing short of that.
Having eliminated the hosts the “Black Pirates” in the semi finals with Ian Munyani leveling the scores and Aredo getting that conversion in the final play that won them the game, the Kobs came into the Finals with just one aim, to get a repeat of last year’s finals outcome.
The Heathens came into the final on the back of an easy victory against the Plascon Mongers and looked to get revenge against the KOBS.
Heathens came into this one as the underdogs, lacking some of their key players like Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Micheal Wokorach and Claude Otema.
The Game started in high gear, Pius Ogena scoring a quick corner try less than 30 seconds into the game.
The Heathens soon got themselves on the score board, the referee awarding a penalty try to Heathens and a yellow card to Joesph Aredo for high tackle on Kato Nicholas in the 5.
The Heathens soon extended their lead to 12 through Lawrence Ssebuliba who grounded the ball in the corner after a well worked set piece.
The Heathens had showed great strength with the counter ruck and managing to force an error thus getting a scrum down on 5 of the KOBS.

The KOBs weren’t done yet as they got a try through Karim Arinaitwe. It was a well worked try, the Kobs showing great hands, with offload after offload till it was the right moment to strike.
There was still time for one more as the hooter sounded just after the restart.
There was a collision in the air off the restart, both Byron and Kato Nicholas unable to gather and the ball finding it’s way to Faragi Odugo who danced through the defense and was tackled high just before reaching the try area.
The referee indicated a penalty to the Kobs but Assistant indicated that their was an earlier infringement. If it was a penalty, the KOBs would have possession and a chance to score and take the victory. However, if it was a knock on, the Heathens would most likely get the possession and get the victory.
After about a minute of consultation, the referee decided that there was knock on and a scrum down was indicated the Heathens with the possession.
They managed to get the ball and Emma Ochan kicked the ball into touch ultimately giving the Heathens the victory.
