In a thrilling showdown at the Lugogo hockey grounds, Weatherhead demonstrated prowess and finesse to triumph over Kampala Hockey Club in the second leg of the Uganda Cup, earning a well-deserved spot in the final with a 3-1 victory. The match unfolded under the chilly afternoon sky, with Weatherhead already carrying a 2-1 lead from the first leg.
From the onset, Colline Batusa showcased his scoring prowess, propelling Weatherhead into the lead during the 1st quarter. Batusa continued his stellar performance, doubling the lead in the 2nd quarter with a spectacular tomahawk shot during a well-executed short corner. As KHC struggled to catch up, Weatherhead widened the aggregate gap, making it an uphill battle for their opponents.

The third quarter saw Barungi tap in from close range, a goal contested by the KHC side as they protested what they believed to be a false call by the unpire.
Despite KHC’s relentless efforts, Weatherhead maintained control, and the 3-0 lead remained intact. Aaron Mutenyo’s goal in the 4th quarter served as a consolation for KHC, but it wasn’t enough to alter the course of the match. The second leg concluded with a 3-1 victory for Weatherhead, securing their place in the final with a 5-2 aggregate triumph.

In the other semifinal clash, Wananchi faced off against Rockets with a 4-2 advantage from the first leg. Wananchi held their ground, securing a 4-2 win in the second leg and sealing an 8-4 aggregate victory.
The stage is now set for a compelling final between Weatherhead and Wananchi on January 20th, 2024 – a rematch of the first edition of the Uganda Cup final, which saw Weatherhead clinch a dramatic victory in a shootout. Anticipation is high as these two formidable teams prepare to renew their rivalry in what promises to be a captivating encounter.
