After a very close encounter on Friday in Game one, the JKL Lady Dolphins and the JT Lady Jaguars came into game 2 hoping to right the few wrongs, up their offense and try to secure the win.
However, in the opening quarter, the 3-time champions showed that they are standing on business as they took the lead, 15-8 after the opening period.
In the second quarter, the Lady Dolphins was still slightly better. Jane Asinde buried 2 3-point while Evelyne Nakiyinji made the other and they also got a couple of points from the free throw line.
The Lady Jaguars scored 11 points and Mercy Batamuliza was responsible for 7 of them. She also collected 7 rebounds in that time but at the end of the half, the JKL Lady Dolphins led the game 19:31.
In the first 3 minutes of the third quarter, the Lady Jaguars scored u points and cut the lead 10. That was not sustained, as they scored just 2 field goals in the final 7 minutes.
The game was put to bed in the fourth quarter after the Lady Dolphins made a 10-0 run and made it a 26-point game.
Despite scoring a couple of baskets in the end, the range was too big to catch and the Lady Dolphins won the game 71:47 to led the series 2-0.
Talking points
Talent Gap
The JKL Lady Dolphins have a lot of individual players who can turn up and go to work.
Jane Asinde set the tone in the first half, scoring 14 of her 17 points in that time. At that time, the Lady Jaguars had scored just 19 points and one could say, in the first half, it was Jane Asinde vs JT Lady Jaguars.
In the second half, Brenda Ekone also took over scoring 12 of her 15 points in that time.
Evelyne Nakiyinji, Becky Longom, and Hope Akello each scored some huge baskets and they carried the team for small stretches both offensively and defensively.
Sarah Ageno stepped up for the Lady Jaguars with 15 points but it was destined to fail without other contributors.
Annet Among and Rhoda Nagitta who had scored crucial points in game one had 0 points.
Brenda Kayaga who has been their go-to person for points scored just 7 points, a step down from her 9 in game one.
Coming up a very motivated JKL Lady Dolphins side, you need to have individuals step up. Players have to rise to the occasion and show that despite the odds being against them, they are here to challenge and sadly in game 2, we saw less of that.
Mercy Batamuliza has been doing a lot of work and she also ought to reward herself with some points on the board.
Squad depth
Gazelles Players and NBL stars, Brenda Ekone, Ritah Imanishimwe, Evelyne Nakiyinji all come of the bench for JKL.
When you compare to the Lady Jaguars, they have fewer experienced people and of course, there’s going to be many game changers for JKL than for JT.
In game 2, the Lady Dolphins had 29 bench points while the Lady Jaguars had 9.
