The National 7s series resumed with the Gulu 7s after a 2 weeks break and Day one was nothing short of surprises.
The finalists of the previous circuit, the Kyadondo 7s all lost a game on day one but they both advanced to the Main Cup Quarter-finals.
The Black Pirates who have won back-to-back circuits defeated the Nile Leopards, 49-0 in their opener but things got tighter in their second.
The 2023 7s Champions needed Sydney Gogondyo try in the dying seconds of the game in order to get a 10-05 victory against Rams.
The situation became worse as they lost to the Walukuba Barbarians 21:26 in their final Pool game and that meant they finished second in their pool.
The Jinja Hippos defeated the Heathens 22:07 in game that was dominated by the Jinja-based side.

The Hippos finished top of their pool after other wins, 15:00 and 31:05 against Impis and Black Arrows respectively.
The Heathens advanced to the main cup quarter-finals after 34:07 and 47:00 wins against Black Arrows and Impis respectively.
Rhinos finished perfect in pool D after big wins, including a 19:10 win against Buffaloes in the decider of who tops the pool.
Kobs were also 100%, and their 10:00 win against Mongers in their final game of the day meant that they finished top of the table.
The biggest surprise of the day was the Mongers 17:00 to the Elgon Wolves in their opening game.
After a 22:07 victory against the Kitgum Lions, the Elgon Wolves advanced to the main cup quarter-finals for the first time this series.
Kobs and Heathens will be battling out in the main cup quarter-finals while Rhinos and Pirates will also lock horns.
The Jinja Hippos will take on Elgon Wolves while Walukuba Barbarians and Buffaloes shall open the quarter-finals.
