The semi-finals of the Division One women’s basketball action tipped off over the weekend with games one and two.
Pearl Queens were the biggest winners as they defeated Kampala University in both games to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
In game one, it was like a practice session as they won the game 68-34.
In the first 3 quarters, Kampala University did not score 10+ points in any.
Pearl Queens took the lead 44-23 but in the fourth, they did more damage, scoring 24 to K.U’s 11.
Kampala University made 33 turnovers and Pearl Queens punished them with 29 points from turnovers.
Cinderella Charity led in scoring with 14 points, Brenda Ayere, Lavin Auma and Nyamwezi Danile scored 13, 10 and 10 respectively.
Pennita Nabakooza led Kampala University in scoring with 10 points while Gloria Ayaa added 8.
In game 2, Lavin Auma and Cinderella Charity were having a field day and they propelled Pearl Queens to a 56-40 victory.
The 2 caused a lot of problems in the paint and Kampala University couldn’t stop them.
Lavin Auma registered 22 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Cindy also had a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Pennita Nabakooza had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals while Victoria Nalwanga had 11 points and 7 rebounds for Kampala University.
The biggest difference in this game was the points in the paint, were Pearl Queens had 38 while Kampala University had 18.
In the other series, Makerere Sparks tied the series 1-1 after edging Victoria She by 2 points in game 2.
In game one, Victoria She Crocs won the game 57-44.
The Sparks fought but Victoria always had an edge and their experience helped them see out the victory.
The height of Victoria helped them a lot and they managed to cause problems in the paint.
36 of their 57 points came in the paint. They also picked 12 more offensive rebounds than Makerere and outscored them 18-7, in second chance points.
Former Sparks’ player, Viola Nakazibwe registered a double-double, 10 points, 13 rebounds and 2 steals.
Thelma Toskin scored a game-high 16 points while youngster Sharon Kilyokya had 13 points.
Mercy Ageno registered a double-double, 11 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for Makerere.
Simon Konga was the other in double digits with 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Makerere Sparks tied the series after winning game two, 49-47.
They limited Victoria to just 6 points in the first quarter and that defense helped them a lot.
Victoria was forced into 38 turnovers and Makerere scored 24 points from turnovers.
Mercy Ageno led Makerere in scoring with 13 points. Afua Nabawanga and Faridah Nakyanzi added 12 and 10 respectively.
Thelma Toskin was the Victoria She was player in double digits as she finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Viola Nakazibwe and Falidah Kadondi registered 13 and 14 rebounds respectively.
Game 3 and 4 shall be played on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th.
After Sunday’s games, the 2 finalists could be determined.
