The Namuwongo Blazers unveiled 4 new players on Wednesday 29th at their home ground at ABJA Parks.

The Blazers were semifinalists in the 2024 season, and with their ambitions of winning the NBL, they made recruitments that could make them jump over the hurdle.

Among the new signings include 2 former City Oilers players, Tonny Drileba and James Okello, and 2 former Our Savior players, Moses Mugisha and Henry Ssebagala.

James and Tonny both departed from the City Oilers halfway through the 2024 season and took their services out of the country.

James played for Tigers Basketball in Burundi while Tonny played for Chaux Sports in D.R.Congo before getting injured and being kept out for a while.

Both Tonny and James bring a lot of experience having won a combined 21 NBL titles with the City Oilers.

In 2024, Tonny played 14 NBL games and averaged 9.4 points, 48.9% FG, 4.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 steals.

James played 13 games and averaged 9.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 48.1% FG.

James talked about his move to the Blazers;

” I think the Blazers have been one of the best teams, and I felt like they missed important pieces like us.

I believe us joining will elevate the team to the next level”

Tonny commented about what prompted him to sign for the Namuwongo side;

“I wanted to be a part of something that is structured. When coach Esco approached me, i felt like it was a good organization to be a part of” he said

Moses Mugisha was a force for Our Savior and he had a spectacular first round.

Despite slowing down a bit in the second, he was still very effective.

He averaged 12.7 points, 39.9% FG,  7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

Moses spoke about why he chose to join the Blazer;

” I wanted a team that would compete” he remarked.

Henry was a solid player for Our Savior as he brought offensive firepower.

He averaged 10.3 points, 4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.1 steals.

Henry was very excited about the move and he had some promises for the fans.

“I am coming to compete and I’m going to give it my best” he said

The 2025 National Basketball League will tip-off on March 14th and it is yet to be determined who the Blazers shall open with.

The team has also had a number of exits and rumors have it that they are still in the market looking for other pieces.
