The Stanbic Black Pirates continued from where they stopped in the 15’s as they once again got the better of Kobs in the Finale of the Stone City 7’s which was the opener of the Nile Special 7s season.

Kobs opened the scoring, Justin Kimono holding off Conrad Wanyama to cross the white line. The Pirates soon got another set back after National Seven star Desire Ayera got an injury and was off the field.

This just seemed to provide a spark and the Pirates were in full force, the Kobs experiencing their wrath. Timothy Kisiga’s brace in the first half gave them the lead and a try from Arnold Atukunda in the second was the final dagger in the Kobs heart.

The Pirates exhibited exceptional talent, resilience and team performance all through, winning all their 6 games despite having to overcome a few setbacks in the process.

One notable one was in the game against the Rhinos in the group games. It was scary hours on the sea as the sea robbers traversed the dark waters caused by the Rhinos. They made a 19 point comeback in the second half, after Rhinos had led the first half 17:00.

MVP Timothy Kisiga who scored 8 tries

Timothy Kisiga was named MVP of the circuit having scored the most tries (8) . Arnold Atukunda was lightning fast on the wing and he scored 6 tries.

Coach Marvin Odong was excited about his team’s performance but urged maintained that they are taking one game at a time. ” He also hinted about how the weather in Kitgum could affect them “it’s been very hot here, i think this was a preparation for Kitgum”. “I’ll check on the weather forecast during the week” he added.

The Nile Special 7s now move to Kitgum on 8/9 July and we shall find out if the Pirates will be able maintain their form.
