More history continues to be written at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and this time round it was the Lionesses who wrote their names in the books as they progressed to their first ever FIFA Women’s world Cup Finale.

The Lionesses saw off the Co-hosts, Australia in a very nervy encounter that attracted more than 75,000 revelers at the Stadium Australia in Sydney.
England had most of the possession in the first half and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring in the first half. Ella Toone with a very powerful strike to find the top left right corner.

The Matildas came back from the half time break with a sense of urgency launching attack after attack and were soon to be rewarded.

Sam Kerr restored parity with a thunderbolt (arguably the goal of the tournament) from 40 yards out finding the top corner. A quick transition from defense to attack, caught the Lionesses defense out and Sam was able to capitalise.
The English however weren’t down, responding instantly through Lauren Hemp. The defender couldn’t clear the ball, and Hemp who hadn’t given up on the chase was served with the opportunity on a silver platter and she made no mistake.
The Matildas tried to create some chances and they came close but it was that third goal that sealed the deal.
Allesia Russo put the icing on the cake for the Lionesses sloting home calmly.
Lauren Hump did brilliantly to find the star with a defense splitting pass, and Russo couldn’t fail to score.

England join Spain and Germany as the only countries to have both their Men’s and women’s teams reach the finals of the World Cup.
England and Spain also have a chance to become the second countries to have both Men’s and Women’s teams emerge world Champions when they play each other on Sunday.
Sarina Wiegman, the Dutch maestro has coached at four major tournaments and reached the final each time. She has the now made back to back World Cup Final appearances, with Netherlands at 2019 and now England.

She has lost just 1 game in 37 and has the most important one on Sunday. Can she get one more on Sunday when England face Spain in the final?
