In the world of collegiate Sports; where seasoned athletes often dominate the limelight, it’s not every day that different university teams exclusively cater for the freshers. However, just 4 weeks ago, an exciting event unfolded in the Makerere Swimming fraternity, aimed at providing freshers with a platform to showcase their talents and as a welcome to Mak Sharks. They organized a swimming Gala to celebrate the International Day of University Sports.

“To spread the word about the Swimming Gala, the organisers designed eye-catching posters that adorned different social media platforms,” Mak Sharks captain Charity noted.

Despite hiccups along the way, the swimming gala managed to gather remarkable support from the Makerere Games Union, drawing in students from various universities to join in on the action. Visitor Universities included MUBS, Ndejje university, Kyambogo University, YMCA and IUEA.

The event was initially planned to have freshers in their own category which was denied by balance amongst different categories. Nevertheless, the organisers remained resolute in their commitment to fairness and sportsmanship.

The tournament itself was a resounding success, with participants hailing from different universities. Spectators cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines creating an electric atmosphere that further fueled the fresher swimmers’ passion for the game.

In the end it wasn’t just about winning or losing; it was about fostering a sense of camaraderie among the participants and demonstrating that swimming is for everyone, regardless of experience level. The Mak Sharks vision had come to fruition, providing freshers with an opportunity to shine and a memory they would carry through out their university days.
