Alton Basketball Academy contingent departed on Monday 17th June to Rwanda’s Capital for their annual Summer Camp.

The delegation included 30 members with 23 being players and the others team officials.

Ahead of their departure, they held a press briefing which was aimed at launching their summer camp and telling more people about the Academy and it’s programs.

The proprietor Alton Asiimwe opened with an introduction and the activities of the Academy;

“We do mentorship through sports and also we equip our athletes so that they can compete at the highest level”

“We have a special needs program, an inclusion program and we also do outreaches, we stand with our communities” he said.

In attendance was the FUBA General Secretary Mr Hudson Ssegamwenge who had kind words about the Academy.

“We are proud of what Alton Basketball Academy has achieved and we are happy that they are coming up with such programs  to keep our athletes in check”  he stated.

“We created a Youth and Development program and one of our goals was to streamline the activities of academies, Alton Basketball Academy is fully registered and they follow our script” Mr Hudson added.

The team that traveled shall participate in U13, U16 and U18 (Elite) practices and games which shall all be happening at Lycée de Kigali (LDK) in Nyarugenge.

The Elite team shall also play a friendly game against Kepler University on Thursday 20th.

Junior Silverbacks guards Mathew Kisakye and Brighton Galiwango, who helped Uganda finish unbeaten at the U18 Zone V Qualifiers are part of Alton Basketball Academy and they are part of the contingent that traveled to Kigali.

What the Academy’s program after the trip to Rwanda, Alton Asiimwe had this to say;

“We have a bunch of friendly games. In the past, we have been playing a lot of Division One and Two teams and this summer, we shall continue with the same”

Alton Basketball Academy holds sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at Fast Sports Fusion in Bugolobi
