The KCCA Panthers had their unbeaten run ended by the Nam Blazers, but this wasn’t any regular defeat; it was punishment by fire.
The Blazers subjected the Panthers to defensive torture; leaving them very frustrated with just 37 points.
Coming into this game, the KCCA Panthers had won all their 4 games to start the season and were very confident about their chances of upsetting the Blazers.
On the other hand, the Blazers had won all their 6 games, their latest victim having been the Kampala Rockets, whom they destroyed 74-41.
The biggest question for Namuwongo was whether they could contain the Panthers’ physicality and did so with ease.
In the first 2 minutes of the game, both teams were scoreless but they both picked up shortly after.
Namuwongo led the game 20-13 after the firs period but there was an ease with which they scored the baskets.
Michael Makiadi got off a couple of jump shots while most of the other baskets were due to the good vision and passes to find the teammates under the rim.
Finding a field goal became harder for the KCCA Panthers in the second quarter.
They only scored 3 and one could tell they were getting frustrated.
All the shots were not dropping, finding a lane to drive was almost impossible and the situation was getting tough.
The Blazers had there way offensively. Tonny Drileba came on a dropped a couple of open triples and they also scored 8 second chance points.
Half time score was 41-25 in favor of Namuwongo but there was still hope for KCCA until the second half happened.
The KCCA Panthers were lost in the second half.
They received a butt whooping and they didn’t understand what was going on.
Namuwongo engaged a gear defensively that supersedes the one we saw against the JT Jaguars and the Kampala Rockets.
KCCA was forced into 10 turnovers in the third quarter alone and was punished with 12 points from turnovers.
Surprisingly, the Blazers also registered multiple turnovers (4) but the Panthers registered 0 points from turnovers.
KCCA scored just 5 points in the third quarter to Namuwongo’s 20 and at this point, the game was over as a contest.
The fourth quarter wasn’t any better for the KCCA Panthers as the torment continued.
The Panthers had no answers and the only thing they were looking forward to was the end of the game.
They looked so out of place, as though they hadn’t won their first 4 games and honestly, this was a reality check for them.
In case they see themselves as contenders, this was a game from which they will pick many valuable lessons in order to better their game.
