In Ecclesiastes chapter 3, the bible talks about “a time for everything.”

I know it is sacrilegious to add words to the Bible, but for purposes of understanding the current state of KIU Titans, we shall add one more verse.

“A time to fight for championships and a time to fight relegation”

When KIU Titans decided to take a new direction in terms of the players, we all knew things would get worse before they got better but we never thought they would hit rock bottom.

As things stand, the KIU Titans are drowning and it is close to impossible to see them survive relegation this year.

In the first round, the Titans had only 10 players on their roster with their most senior player being Carlos Isabu, who barely played in the NBL the year before.

As expected, KIU did not do well as they lost all their 11 games in the first round.

This means that they are in a very deep hole and coming out is next to impossible.

In order to have a chance, the Titans would have to win about 9 games and even that does not guarantee safety.

The news hitting us indicates that KIU has acquired the services of Akok Majok Peter, Hon Kwany, and Martin Saa Sita from Sommet.

Hon played all the 11 games in the first round and started 6 of them.

He averaged 7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1 assist.

Akok started 2 of his 8 played and averaged 3 points, and 3.8 rebounds.

Martin was the most productive with 7.1 points, 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 7 games, but he did not play in most of the final games of the first round.

These 3 players will add to the depth and experience of KIU Titans but they are not signings that will elevate the team to winning even 5 games in the second round.

With this, I think it is safe to say that the KIU Titans are already relegated.

The most annoying bit is, for a team that was in the last 2 NBL finals, why did they decide to blow up things at this moment?

The rivalry is now gone, and the KIU Titans, which was a very exciting team to watch and had many people anticipate their games, is now washed.

They decided to go for a rebuild and it takes patience and commitment to sustain a program of that caliber.

It would not be a surprise if KIU Titans get relegated and in a few years is no more.

Another likely outcome is that they get to Division One, and they become a very mediocre side that just participates.

KIU Titans open its second round on Saturday 1st June against the Kampala Rockets, a side they almost defeated in the first round.

Can they register their first win of the season?
