The JKL Lady Dolphins got revenge against the KCCA Leopards as they defeated them 86-74 in the second round opener on Friday 30th at Lugogo.
With 4 minutes left in the third quarter, the game was tied 59 a piece with not team having led by more than 5 points in the game.
This is when the game broke open.
The Lady Dolphins made 4 consecutive triples to take an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Agatha Kamwada was the hot hand as she scored 3 of those and a total of 4 makes from 5 attempts in the quarter.
To start thr fourth quarter,the Leopards cut the deficit to 5 points but Hope Akello and Flavia Oketcho made big baskets to take the lead back to double digits.
From their onwards, the Lady Dolphins were in control and at no point was their lead threatened.
KCCA missed so many opportunities in transition and that played in the hands of the 4-time champions.
This game was very big for both teams and a win for either would mean so much, but the Leopards needed it more.
In the first quarter, both them were going at each others and the scoring efficiency was amazing.
JKL led 30-26 but this was a very rare occurrence to have 2 teams score 25+ in a quarter.
Shadia Nassanga was a problem in the paint for KCCA.
She scored 8 points and picked 6 offensive rebounds in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, she scored 7 points and finished the half with double-double.
The KCCA Leopards had their turn in the second quarter.
Margaret Bagaala scored 8 points in the quarter to help the Leopards lead the game 48-47 at halftime.
In the first minutes of the quarter, both teams were going neck and neck, with the lead never going past 3 points until the final 2 minutes.
One thing to note in this game is the fact that KCCA gave away so many open shots to the Lady Dolphins.
In the first half, they did not make many of them but when the it rained, it poured.
The impact of Shadia Nassanga is also something that needs to be discussed.
Her ability to score with such efficiency helped take the pressure off of the other players and with the absence of Longom, she has taken care of business.
