The JKL Lady Dolphins handed the JT Lady Jaguars a thorough whopping and a statement that they are not on their level.

In case you don’t complete this article, here’s a few things you should know about this game.

  1. JKL Lady Dolphins cooked the JT Lady Jaguars
  2. Ruth Letaru was a warrior on the floor, set the tone defensively and drowned her former employers
  3. JT couldn’t shoot to save their lives
  4. Zainah Lokwameri was fired up, played with a chip on her shoulder
  5. JKL was committed to defense (mainly the zone)
  6. No Evelyne, no problem
  7. JKL are are defending Champions for a reason

Coming into this game, the Lady Dolphins had lost to the UCU Lady Canons two days prior.

JKL had also lost to the Jaguars in the first round and this was going to be a huge game for them.

With the absence of their starting point guard, Evelyne Nakiyingi, many thought that they would struggle offensively but that was far from the case.

To start the game, JKL’s area of operation was in the paint.

They kept attacking the basket but one thing stood out, Ruth Letaru had a lot of attempts, a thing we are not accustomed to seeing.

She had 5 attempts in  8 minutes and scored 6 points in the first quarter.

Letaru also did a lot of work defensively and the JKL developed a 10-point lead with 2:37 left in the quarter.

However, when Zainah and Letaru checked out, JT started to go to work.

They closed the quarter with a 5-0 run and opened the second with a Maimuna Nabbosa triple to make it a 2-point game.

Shortly after, Zainah Lokwameri checked back in and about a minute later, Ruth also checked back in.

After that, the rest is history.

JKL outscored JT, 20-7 in the remainder of the quarter and the Lady Jaguars didn’t look like a side that could put together a comeback.

At halftime, JKL led the game 43-28 but the situation only became worse for the kira side.

They scored just 9 points in the third quarter while JKL had 18 to increase their lead to 24.

There was surely no hope of a comeback, and JKL was still very hungry in the fourth.

The game ended 82-52 but you could tell that the Lady Jaguars were smashed into submission.

They so badly wanted the game to end but it was as though the clock wasn’t moving.

What happened?

There is a lot to delve into when it comes to the technical aspects of what happened on the floor.

However, the summary at the beginning of the game paints a picture of some of what happened.

JKL was more committed to defense and they played as a single force.

They mostly used a zone and JT failed to break it down.

On moments where they created good shots, they could barely convert.

The Lady Jaguars scored just 3 of their 27 3-point shot attempts and even on the free throw line, they missed 6 of 13 while JKL missed only 1 of 13 attempts.

The ability for Zainah and Hope to generate a lot of offense with high efficiency.

Zainah had only 7 attempts from the field but her ability to create for others helped them a lot.

Everytime someone came to help, or a double team happened, these guys always found a pass and it was very easy for them to break down the Lady Jaguars.

Shadia Nassanga also came in and dropped a couple of midrange shots which were mostly uncontested. This helped add to the fire power that the Lady Dolphins had.

This victory showed us that JKL is still the favorites they will not just handle over the title, you have to take it from them.

The JT Lady Jaguars got another reality check, as though the one against KCCA wasn’t enough.

They need to improve so many things but one of them is the 3-point shooting.

Also, Shakirah Nanvubya has to play like the person that we saw during the Afrobasket Qualifiers in Egypt.

There was a lot of hype around the JT Lady Jaguars but if they go down to another top side, their story will be having a lot of similarities to the 2024 KCCA Leopards.
