Do you know whats tougher and more dramatic than the English Premier League?

The Nile Special Rugby Womens 7s Series!

The competition features 6 core teams and 2 invitational sides, and has thus far served nothing short of drama, ecstasy, tension and excitement.

For the past couple of years, the tournament has been tournament by powerhouse, Black Pearls but tides have since changed with the Thunderbirds and Avengers improving tremendously.

The Pearls won the last 4 editions but have been struggling in this year’s edition, making a single finals appearance.

The Avengers looked sharp in 2023 and 2023 but were still no match to the Black Pearls.

However, they have progressively improved and this looks like their best time to win this title.

The oldest Women’s club, the Thunderbirds, have had a couple of issues in the past couple of years but 2024 looked like a turn around year for them.

They have since been a much better side and are unsurprisingly top of the standings at the moment.

Having made their debut in 2024, the Mbale side, She Wolves, have have continued to display their unique brand of rugby characterised by support play, hard work and team spirit.

Players like Habiba Namalembe and Sunday Anirwoth who got some National team experience have also helped lead the team.

Rapid like their name, the Nile Rapids are swift and sharp and have proved that they can compete at a high level.

Having had managerial battles in the first 2 circuits, they bounced back to win the Entebbe 7s.

And Finally! The Walukuba Titans.

Initially thought to be the easy prey, he newbies have pulled off major shockers including a win against the defending champions, the Black Pearls, in their second game in the top division at Kyadondo.

They went ahead to defeat Avengers on the same day during a semi-final clash and fell short in the finals against the Thunderbirds.

All the six core teams have at least made it to the semis, and five, other than She Wolves, have made it to at least a final.

A different team has won each of the 4 stops played so far. The Thunderbirds at Kyadondo, Avengers in Gulu, Nile Rapids in Entebbe, and Black Pearls at King’s Park.

To show you how tough it is, the winners in Entebbe, Nile Rapids, failed to make it past the group stage at the Rujumba 7s.

As much as the nip and tuck is still between Thunderbirds and Avengers, it’s hard to write off the Titans in the overall race.

On the other side, the relegation woes continue to linger with limited room for error for the bottom three teams.

With the series having gone past the halfway mark, it will be interesting to watch how the teams tussle each other with everything that is at stake.

As the saying goes, “you blink, you miss”. You have to keep your eyes wide open while watching the Uganda Women’s 7s Rugby because if you blink, a lot can pass you by.
