Coach Roger Serunyigo has officially stepped down as the Coach of the KCCA Leopards.
On Tuesday 7th, Roger officially handed in his resignation as the Head Coach of the KCCA Leopards where he has been for the last 2 years.
In his resignation, he wrote;
“I appreciate the tenure I have been given to coach the KCCA Leopards in the 2024 and 2025 women’s National Basketball League. I ask to resign from the post of Head Coach of the Leopards Basketball team.”
“I definitely notice a lot of growth with the club and i strongly believe next year will be an impeccable year for the ladies’ team. I would encourage management and the new coaching staff to maintain a majority of the players for better results to happen.”
“I will now focus on basketball development through my basketball academy, the Victoria University teams.”
In his time, they had good regular season performances but the playoffs did not treat them well.
During the 2024 season, KCCA was tipped to win the championship. However, they lost to the top 4 teams in the second round and were swept in the quarter-finals by the JT Lady Jaguars.
The Leopards had a 16-8 record in that season but it was devastating that they were swept in the quarter-finals.
In the 2025 season, KCCA lost a single game in the first round and had a 17-3 record in the regular season.
However, they lost 2-1 to the Magic Stormers in the quarter-finals and this was another tragic ending to what was a promising season.
During his tenure, KCCA Leopards played 46 NBL games winning 33 (71.7%) and losing 13 (28.26).
One thing we can’t forget is the fact that the Leopards did not perform in the post season when it mattered the most.
Coach Roger had hinted about his resignation from as the KCCA Leopards Head Coach earlier in the season.
This came after the Victoria University opened a ladies Basketball team (Victoria She Crocs) and he was tasked to be the Head Coach.
Having been the Head Coach for the Men’s side (Victoria Crocs), it was always going to be easy for him to take on the ladies given that the 2 were under the same management.
With Victoria Crocs playing in the NBL, Victoria She Crocs playing in Division One and KCCA Leopards playing in the NBL, it was very difficult for Coach Rogers to balance everything out.
On top of that, he is a P.E teacher in an international school, works as an ISSAK coordinator and is also the proprietor Rockwell Basketball Academy.
Secondly, there is a huge possibility that the Victoria She Crocs will qualify for the NBL.
According to the rules, you cannot coach 2 teams in the same competition.
That means, Roger would have had to choose between KCCA or Victoria.
He did not wait for that drama and he has already chosen his path, to work with Victoria University.

Coach Roger’s Thoughts on his time at KCCA
How would you rate your time at KCCA?
Successful with the Men’s-Panthers. Shy of success with the ladies but lots of aspects of growth.
Do you think you failed to reach your potential, given that it was exits in the quarter-finals back to back?
100% we all hoped for more at worst finals.
What is most memorable moment during your time?
Taking the Panthers to NBL and Winning the FUBA Easter Cup with the Leopards in 2017
Who was the most improved player?
Ninette Uwineza, Margaret Bagaala, can’t select.
What do you think was your biggest impact at the club during your tenure?
Leopards togetherness in 2025 despite the unfavorable results in the playoffs.
Most Memorable Loss
63-60 loss to UCU (Second Round 2025). In the last 6 secs of the game a foul was not called on Tracy. She was actually fouled twice and we lost.
Most Memorable Win
75-67 win vs JKLLady Dolphins (2025 NBL Round One). The win was a big boost to the dreams (hopes of a championship).
Coach Roger managed to guide the Victoria Crocs to the NBL last year and they missed out on the playoffs due to head to head.
The Victoria She Crocs finished as the number one seed in the regular season of the Division One and are on a quest to qualify to the NBL.
Coach Roger’s time at KCCA may be done (for now) but his time in the NBL is just getting started.
