With less than a month left till the 2023 Rugby Africa 7s, the National Team sevens squad which has been in Camp and training at Kyadondo has traveled to Nakuru, Kenya for a one week’s solidarity performance camp hosted at St. Andrew’s Turi.
After the Tooro 7s, 22 players were summoned to the National Team Camp and it is believed that from among those, the 13 to represent the Nation in Harare will be selected.
It was rather a shock when the team list of the players in the Camp in Kenya was released as three big names including the Captain Ian Munyani were not among.

The other big name was Stanbic Black Pirates Star William Nkore who has featured for the team on the last 3 outings and has been a very good impact player more so with the kicks.

Ian and Nkore have all been training with the National team but a close source reveals that they could not make the trip because of “work commitments”. It is yet to be confirmed whether they will be part of the final 13 man squad that will be representing but given their seniority, it is unlikely they will be dropped unless there is a crisis.
Mark William Lukwago, who was the most dangerous player for the Plascon mongers and was very instrumental in their run to the finals in Tooro was also not in the squad. William sustained a leg injury and was seen in a cast at the Kyadondo 7s on 12th and 13th this month.

Lifeguard Rams star Hosana Opileni has who wasn’t part of the original squad of 22 was listed as part of the 20 players in Kenya. He has not taken part in the Nile Special 7s due to school commitments and it came to a surprise of many how he is in the squad.
His abilities are however unquestionable, as he was one of the most dangerous and effective players for the Rams in the 15’s and with him in the squad, he could pick up valuable lessons from the more senior players. This experience could come in very handy as he’s looked at as one of the future prospects of the National 7s team.
