The UPDF Lady Tomahawks have started the 2025 NBL season on a high with back-to-back wins against Angels and Nkumba Lady Marines.
They will want to keep their winning streak alive when they take on the KIU Rangers on Wednesday, the 2nd, at Lugogo.
Ahead of the season, UPDF Lady Tomahawks coach Ashaba Ronnie stated that their aim is to finish in the top 6 and so far, everything is going according to plan.
However, the Lady Tomahawks face a tough test in KIU Rangers, and getting a victory in this game would mean a lot to them.
The KIU Rangers lost their season opener, 56-40, against the UCU Lady Canons and they will be out looking for a victory this time around.
They had a couple of issues more so their bluntness on offense and this needs to change if they are to secure a positive result in this game.
KIU did not create enough shots for their top 3-point shooters.
Ines Kanyamuneza attempted just 4 and scored none while Leticia Awor had a single attempt from behind the arc.
Despite Elizabeth Aguti knocking down 4-8, that wasn’t enough. The Rangers need to find the keys to unlock their top stars.

Head to Head
KIU Rangers 82-51 UPDF Lady Tomahawks
KIU Rangers 81-53 UPDF Lady Tomahawks
Previous Games
UPDF 62-47 Nkumba
UPDF 55-41 Angels
KIU Rangers 40-56 UCU Lady Canons
Expectations
When these 2 sides met in the 2024 season, KIU Rangers had a very significant advantage and they difference between the 2 sides was visible as seen from the scores.
However, this time around, the difference has been slightly reduced and despite KIU still having an advantage, it is not as big as last year.
The Rangers will look to start the game strongly to establish an early significant lead.
In their last game against UCU, it was high tempo and at some point, the players were gasping for air.
For a team like UPDF, they are very fit and have the potential to play at a high intensity the entire game.
If KIU doesn’t kill off the game early enough, they may lose just because of getting tired while UPDF is still coming.
UPDF used the full-court press in the 2023 season and it worked for them well.
We wouldn’t be surprised if they employed the same strategy from the get-go against KIU.
Players to watch out for
After dropping 20 points and 17 rebounds in their last game, Lady Tomahawks’ Nasiimu Mutesi is hungry for more and will be coming out strong.
The Rangers have to tirelessly box out to neutralize the threat that Mutesi faces.
Elizabeth Aguti scored 4 of 8 3-point shot attempts against UCU Lady Canons.
She is one not to sleep on and can punish you if you give her space.
The game shall be tipping off at 7:00 pm at Lugogo.
The other ladies’ game shall be between Angels and the Magic Stormers at Abja Parks in Naalya.
