The USSSA Ball Games 1 hockey tournament has reached its climax, with the finals set to unfold in Bukedea on Tuesday 13th May after a thrilling week of competition.

Matches kicked off on Thursday, May 8, across the Lifeline and Township pitches, delivering high-stakes drama and standout performances from Uganda’s top school teams.

In the boys’ category, Group A saw Ntare School and Kyadondo, both finishing with 11 points. However, it was Ntare who clinched the top spot thanks to an impressive goal difference of +11 compared to Kyadondo’s +4.

Ntare went on to face Group B runners-up Kakungulu, while Kyadondo took on the unbeaten Mbarara High, who stormed through their group with a perfect four wins out of four.

The Ntare vs Kakungulu semifinal was a rematch of last year’s final, one Kakungulu had won 2-0.

But this time, Ntare flipped the script with a clinical 1-0 win, exerting revenge and maintaining their perfect defensive record as the only team yet to concede a goal. They also lead the scoring charts with 12 goals.

On the other side, Mbarara High once again proved too strong for Kyadondo.

In a repeat of last year’s third-place playoff, Mbarara secured another 2-0 victory, setting up an all-Mbarara final that promises fireworks.

In the girls’ category, Kakungulu dispatched Mushanga 2-0 in their semifinal, while Kasasa pulled off an upset by defeating last year’s finalists Bweranyangi, 2-0 in penalty shootouts after ending in a one-all draw after normal time, to book their place in the final.
