Gameweek 16 action kicked off with KHC Stallions overcoming a rocky start to defeat Thunders 6-0.

Despite starting the game with just nine players, due to penalties of accumulated yellow cards, the Stallions managed to hold their ground, even keeping a clean sheet thanks to goalkeeper Kaijuka Richard, who saved a penalty stroke from Muhammed Babu of Thunders.

Goals from Jesse Byakagaba, Arthur Aine, Alfred Agaba, Jordan Mpiima, Richard Ssemwogerere, and Aaron Mutenyo sealed the emphatic win.

In another thrilling match, Badgers cruised to a 5-2 victory over Weatherhead Titans. Opio Aaron bagged a brace for the Badgers, while Harold Ntale, Mark Ojok, and Ismael Nuwamanya also found the back of the net.

Titans’ Vincent Kasasa scored two consolation goals, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Badgers’ dominant display.

Rockets secured a solid 5-0 win over Makerere Stingers, completing a season double over their opponents.

This victory propelled Rockets to 5th place with 19 points and a neutral goal difference, pushing Stingers down to 6th place with an inferior goal difference of -12.

The highlight of the weekend came with the clash between top contenders Wananchi and Weatherhead.

Wananchi, trailing by three points before the game, knew a win would take them to the top of the table. The game was evenly contested, with Shafik Byamukama marking his return from a six-month injury with a 14th-minute goal for Wananchi.

Weatherhead responded through Maxwell Mugisa in the 23rd minute, but Wananchi’s Jordan Achaye sealed the win with a crucial 50th-minute goal, pushing his team to a 2-1 victory.

With the win, Wananchi moved level with Weatherhead on 37 points but took the top spot on goal difference (94 to Weatherhead’s 76).

With just four games remaining, Wananchi seem poised to reclaim the title they lost last season on goal difference, while Weatherhead will need to bounce back quickly if they hope to keep their crown.

Unfortunately, the excitement of the day was overshadowed by unsportsmanlike behavior from Weatherhead fans after the final whistle.

Match official Rooney Aheebwe was assaulted by a fan, John Nsubuga, while technical official Joshua Masawi was also punched by another fan, Dickson amidst the chaos. The incidents cast a shadow over an otherwise thrilling day of hockey and raise concerns over fan conduct as the season nears its climax.

With the top teams neck and neck, the final games promise even more intense competition as all eyes remain on the title race.
