The National Hockey League resumed with thrilling action on the weekend of October 26th and 27th at Lugogo Hockey Grounds, as Wananchi surged to maintain their top spot, locked at 37 points with Weatherhead but leading on goal difference.

Wananchi’s goal tally of 94, compared to Weatherhead’s 76, has proven decisive, and with memories of last year’s title loss on goal difference, the team is determined to keep the edge this season.

In their Saturday fixture against KHC Originals, Wananchi left no room for doubt, firing off a resounding 13-1 win.

Shafiq Byamukama, returning strong from injury, netted a hat trick, with teammates Musinguzi Jackson (3), Jordan Achaye (2), Jeremiah Owori (2), Kabanda Emmanuel, Okello Martin, and Jerome Owori adding to the scoreline.

This dominant display followed Weatherhead’s 6-1 victory over Thunders earlier that day, keeping the title race tightly contested.

KHC Stallions remain firm in third place, staying in the title race with an impressive 8-0 victory over the Weatherhead Titans.

Jordan Mpiima led the charge with a hat trick, reclaiming his spot at the top of the scorers’ chart alongside Timothy Ntumba. Additional goals from Agaba Alfred, Bayule Brian, Aaron Mutenyo, James Mugisha, and Richard Ssemwogerere brought Kampala’s total to 39 points—just one point behind the leaders.

With only three matches remaining, the title race is heating up, each game now holds the potential to decide the season’s fate.

Elsewhere in the men’s league, Badgers secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Rockets, strengthening their hold on fourth position, while Makerere jumped to fifth after a walkover win against City Lions, pushing Rockets into sixth.

As the countdown to the season end continues, the question remains: can anyone stop Wananchi from seizing the title?
