The Uganda U23 3×3 Women’s team set off for the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup 2024 that will be happening from 11th to 15th September in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The team qualified after winning the 3×3 Youth Nations League Africa 2 which was organized in Uganda.
The Uganda Ladies won 4 of the 6 stops and amassed the most points here qualifying for the World Cup.
Of the 6 players that represented during the Youth Nations League, 3 of them will not be traveling and youngster Mary Priscilla Nambogo, who did not participate has joined the other three to make the team of four.
Mary Amaniyo, who played the first 3 stops did not play in the final 3 die to injury.
She also did not play in the National Basketball League (NBL) semifinals due to another injury which she sustained after an accident on a motorbike.
She is currently at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), where the current Gazelles Captain, Jane Asinde, was playing her college basketball, and making it for the trip would have been very difficult.
Lydia Babirye, the MVP of the Youth Nations League is set to return to school in the United States and making it for the trip was going to be difficult.
Darlene Tashobya who also played the first and final Stop returned to school in the US and that’s why she won’t be making the team.

Shillah Lamunu is expected to be the go-to person to control and make plays for the team while Nambogo is expected to shoot the basketball well.
Longom and Akello bring size, and their primary role will be to collect rebounds and go to work in the Post.
Priscilla Nambogo will be representing the country at the biggest stage for the second time, the first having been in the 2022 FIBA U18 African Women’s Championship where Uganda finished 5th.
Uganda is the lowest ranked country just behind Kenya and are in the same Pool with France, Netherlands, Chile, and Egypt.
Only the top 2 teams advance to the quarter-finals and Uganda shall be looking to get results against all teams more so Netherlands and Chile who are in the bottom half of the rankings like Uganda.
