The UCU Lady Canons managed to pick up a second victory of the season but if there was more time in the game, the story could have been different.

The UPDF Ladyhawks were having a shit show for most of the game and they seemed to wake up from their slumber a little too late when the UCU Lady Canons had already run away with the victory.

With just 5 points in the first quarter for the army side, the pace was set for what most of the would be like.

Despite the Lady Canons also not playing particularly well, they managed to get a 20 point lead at half time.

The UCU Lady Canons continued piling the pressure going on a 17:3 run and established a 36 point half way the third quarter.

Najjuko Hajara who sustained a foot injury late in the Game.

Christine Namyalo came alive in the final half of the third quarter, drilling 2, 3-point shots plus a mid-range jump shot to make it a 30 point game.

Stella Marris Lunkuse closed the quarter with 5 consecutive points for UPDF including a very crucial 3 point shot and the Ladyhawks had the momentum though they still had a 25 point mountain to climb.

The Ladyhawks applied their famous high press and managed to make life difficult for UCU on the offensive end.

They closed the quarter with an 11:0 run in the final 3 minutes but there wasn’t enough time to make a comeback and the game ending 68:61.

Key takeaways

The UPDF side struggled a lot in the first half, the 3 point shots were unable to fall and their work inside the paint was made difficult due to the size difference. Bridget Aber made it very difficult for the Lady Tomahawks offense and they seemed not to find a solution to that problem.

Another big difference was the rebounding. UCU were very active in that facet, beating UPDF by a mile but the size difference was once again a factor. The Lady Tomahawks seemed not to be able to pick an offensive rebound, but all that changed in the third and fourth quarter, the big guys of the Army side became more proactive fighting for offensive rebounds and as a result, got a couple of second chance points.

Coach Nicholas Natuhereza has been on some sort of experiment in the first two (2) games making very many rotations. All the players available, bar Sylivia Nakituuka, played more than 13 minutes each. This could be one where he’s figuring out which combinations work best and if it works well, he could build a formidable squad that could challenge for the title.
