Times have changed and we all didn’t see it coming this quick and in this manner.
When you read Mathew 20:16, it talks about the first being the last and the last being the first.
Well, the City Oilers took the first part seriously, because, for a team which used to be the first to secure the playoffs, looks like they might be the last or possibly miss out.
With 2 games to go, the City Oilers find themselves in a situation where they must win but with 2 things in mind, to make the playoffs and to ensure they don’t face their strongest foes in the early stages of the playoffs.
The City Oilers currently have an 11-9 record and face the Namuwongo Blazers and the JKL Dolphins in their final 2 games.
They must win against the Namuwongo Blazers. Why?
In case the Oilers don’t win this game, they will come into their final game of the season with one job, to win, in order to make the playoffs.
Given that the JKL Dolphins defeated them in the first round, you wouldn’t want to take chances against them.
Secondly, the seeding for the playoffs will be on their minds.
If City Oilers win this game, they will also have to make sure they get a positive result in the JKL game and that would put them in 6th or 7th place.
If they lose, the possibility that they finish as the number 8 seed becomes high.
In case Oilers lose this game, they will pray that both Rezlife and Victoria win all their games so that the 3 teams are tied and Oilers finish as 7th.
In case Rezlife lose any, Victoria will be in prime position to finish 7th while the Oilers finish as number 8.
City Oilers don’t want to finish as number 8 because if they do, they will face the Namuwongo Blazers in the quarter finals.
That is not a suitable match up for them given how bad they have been and if they believe they can win the Championship, they would prefer to face the Blazers in the finals.
Nonetheless, this game has a lot of consequences and the Oilers know that they must win, not only to make the playoffs but to ensure that they finish in a path, away from the Blazers till the finals.
The Namuwongo Blazers have an opportunity to inflict pain on the Oilers and that will be their motivation.
Defeating the Oilers alone wouldn’t be enough, the Blazers will want to barter the 10-time champions and maul them with an ugly score.
City Oilers have their backs against the wall. Will they succumb to the pressure or will they rise up to the occasion?
This is going to be a very big game for the current Oilers squad and they have to show the world who they are and what they are made of.
