Uganda Christian University emerged as the winners of the 6th Afro-Varsity 3×3 Basketball Championship which was held at Makerere University Pool Court from 27-28 July.

The Mukono-based University dominated both the Men and Women’s Categories and took home Gold in both.

The 2-day event which was organized by the Federal of Africa University Sports (FASU) attracted 15 Universities from around the continent and 11 women’s teams and 14 men’s teams participated.

The UCU women won all their 8 games and crowned the weekend off with an easy 21-12 victory against USIU in the final.

On the other hand, the UCU men lost their final group game 16-18 against USIU but went on to win the Championship, defeating defending Champions University of Cape Coast 16:19 in the finals.

The UCU team was stacked with players like Bridget Aber, Aziida Nabayunga, Shakirah Nanvubya, Marvin Jesse Okurut and Joel Kayiira who have represented Uganda in the 3×3 competitions and their experience played a huge role in their wins.

The winners shall represent Africa in the 2024 FISU University World Cup 3×3 Basketball which shall take place in Xiamen China from 22nd to 24th November.
